HAPPY THOUGHTS - SING ALONG EVERYONE!
Walking In The Sunshine, singing a little sunshine song,
Put a smile on your face as if there's nothing wrong.
Think about a good time had a long time ago,
Think about forgetting about your worries and your woes,
Walking In The Sunshine, singing a little sunshine song.
La la la la la dee oh,
Whether the weather be rain or snow,
Pretending can make it real,
A snowy pasture, a green and grassy field.
Walking in the sunshine, sing a little sunshine song!

Welcome to August in the Washington DC area. Only it is like that EVERY single day with hellacious thunderstorms for a little extra fun. At least we have air conditioning in our house. I am assuming that you guys do not?
ReplyDeleteNo on the air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the same here because for about 98% of the rest of the year the a/c unit gathers moss and lets in cold air in the window it sits in. Or it's stored for a few years until it's needed again. Some houses do have central air, but it's usually a wasted expense.
Now, there's not a fan nor air conditioner to be found in the Puget Sound area. Shelves are bare everywhere, no kidding. Yesterday morning, over 100 people lined up outside the local Home Despot store before it opened, with the hope of getting an air conditioner. Eve went down to the mom and pop hardware store in Woodinville this morning after we got yesterdays ad showing them on sale.
They had sold out before the ad ran...Maybe some more tomorrow?
Usually, we get by suffering through the warm temps on the short term before they return to normal by running fans, opening windows, catching a movie, eating out etc... The current heat wave though is the exception. I have NEVER felt heat like this around here. Even when it gets hot, usually you can count on the onshore flow of ocean air to cool it all down rather quickly come evening. Not this time. The warm air is being drawn up from northern California, which it self is a few degrees cooler than the surface of the sun, and is trapped in a strong high pressure system.
Most of the transit buses don't have A/C, at least mine doesn't. It's like riding in an oven coming home. I've driven to work the past two days to avoid the sauna ride. I don't mind the traffic jam so much while I'm building snowmen in the backseat of my truck!
My tomatoes are really coming on and demanding water every day. The hot temps have been great for them. By the time I get home their soils are parched all the way through. Once they've been quenched the humans get watered too. Adelle and I have been making it "rain" in the back yard. Eve joined us for a few trips under the spray. Very refreshing!
Watering formula is as follows; 1 part on tomato 2 parts on humans, or more if you please. We drenched ourselves last night and it felt great! My shirt stayed damp and it really helped to offset the heavy warm air that lingered until late in the evening.
I love the sun. I grew up knowing that by late July we were in for very hot weather. I worked outside many a summer in upper 90's to triple digits before. It's a dry heat and we were prepared for it. It was expected and when I got home, I beelined for the basement where it was always 72 even when it was nearly 100 at the top of the stairs. Or we'd pile in our rigs and make for the water; rivers, lakes, pools etc... Nothing felt so good as to be baking hot on your ride out to the river, then leaping into 50 degree water at the apex of heat and sweat. There's nothing like it! About 30 minutes later, you're completely dry again and the process repeats.
We're getting through it here okay. Our fans have been running non stop. One more and I bet our house will actually lift off the foundation and take flight! Temps are supposed to level off a bit, relief may be in sight?
